A couple years ago, one night, I was about to propose to my girlfriend when my roommate Joseph barged into the porch out of nowhere, tripped and fell over breaking the glass coffee table with his face. He totally ruined the mood. Now, I didn’t know Joseph THAT well, don’t even remember where he was from, but let’s just say I put my plans on hold to help him through his injuries.

Joseph had gotten a big glass shard in his eye, making him completely blind in that eye. He was walking around with one of those cotton eye pads on his eye for a couple months. Then suddenly, he disappeared along with my girlfriend.

Apparently they’d bonded during the time after his injuries, and eloped together and left me behind without as much as a note. I tried to track them down, but never could.

In conclusion, if it hadn’t been for cotton-eyed Joe, I’d have been married a long time ago. Where did you come from, where did you go? Where did you come from cotton-eyed Joe?

A wife, being the romantic sort, sent her husband a text: “If you are sleeping, send me your dreams. If you are laughing, send me your smile. If you are eating, send me a bite. If you are drinking, send me a sip. If you are crying, send me your tears. I love you.” The husband, typically non-romantic, replied: “I am on the toilet. Please advise.”

Closing Sermon Words:

A preacher was completing a temperance sermon: with great expression he said, “If I had all the beer in the world, I’d take it and throw it into the river.” With even greater emphasis, he said, “And if I had all the wine in the world, I’d take it and throw it into the river.” And then finally he said, “And if I had all the whiskey in the world, I would throw it into the river.”

He sat down. The song leader then stood very cautiously and announced with a smile, “For our closing song, let us sing Hymn # 365: Shall we Gather at the River.”
